Solid qualifying keeps Broadhurst in podium hunt
With only 20 minutes to qualify for three races on the short Silverstone National circuit and a grid of 20 cars, it was always going to be a hectic session. Running on new tires in the Ginetta for the first time, Michael found it difficult to generate enough temperature in them to maximize their full potential. While encountering problems with Traffic during the session, Michael had to abort several fast laps which saw him driving through the pitlane to find clear air.
“It was a difficult session; the track wasn’t that warm this morning and it took longer for the tires to come in than I expected. I also got caught out a bit with traffic which is usually the norm around the National circuit, especially with such a healthy grid”.
With the clock ticking down and pressure mounting to put in a good lap time, Michael used his final run of the session to record a best time of 1:00.231 just 0.324 slower than the fastest time, putting him 7th on the grid for race one. With the grid for races two and three decided by the second and third fastest times, Michael’s efforts would see him line up 9th for both, just 0.1 slower than his best time, proving how competitive the G50 Cup is.
“To be qualifying in 7th and 9th is disappointing considering another tenth of a second would have put me 4th instead. However, to be this close in my debut meeting is encouraging so with a good start we should be in for a good result”.
